Delivering

It all started on Sat the 21st when we got the a mother ready to deliver. So a missionary stay home to help out. I was going to Kampala to help a friend.
At about 2030 on sat night I got a phone call from the manager telling me that there was a lady at the gate that is already to deliver. So I told him to let her in and I will call the people that needed to be called. It turned out that she was not ready. So she slept the night in the clinic and the next day she was ready to deliver. So the next evening she was just getting ready to deliver so I went down to take photo’s and to help if I could.
It was the 1st for this lady that one of the reasons it took so long and she was just married at 19 so she didn’t understand the whole process of child birth.
I was in the delivery room during the delivery. So I was the go for it guy and to me that was ok because I believe that you need that guy too. So when it was time I got to see the baby crowning. It was not like in EMT classes that I took on child birth.

Church + Rain

Church + Rain what can you say we do not think about it has a big deal. On Sunday the 25th my boy's and myself were in church. Church had just started and we started singing like normal and it is the rainy season so it started to rain, so we just continued to sing no big deal right its normal. It was not a normal day at church it was plan to do more singing than normal, so at this point we are into the service for about 1 hour now and the rain is continuing on and on and getting louder and louder. We are in a building with no glass on the windows and just a tin roof so you can imagine how loud it was. I was in the 2nd row about 5 feet from the pastor and I could not even hear him that's how loud it was. We just finished the last song and we were about a half hour left of the service when the pastor stopped the service and told us to go home. That was the 1st time in my life that church was cut short do to rain.
When we tried to leave very door was flooded, the whole inside of the building was wet and everyone was very wet themselves. When we were leaving we ran to the car so we were driving and we have to go up a dirt hill. I was half way up and was starting to lose grip I thought to myself sh@# I am in a mudslide. So I turned the wheel and got some grip back and just hit the gas and I made it though. It was a very exciting day!!!!!!!!

Returned Home to Uganda

I have been home for almost 1 Month now! The weather is great it's in the mid 80's to 90's most days it is the rainy season. Since I have been home I am trying to get caught up with the work.
One of the 1st days that I was back I was working in our Clinic and we delivered the second baby boy since we opened how exciting I thought. We had the 1st baby a couple of days before I got back. Otherwise it has been very boring same old same old.

Toads

On the night of August 23rd I was walking back to my home and told max to get him and so kept on walking back homeand when I got home Max was foaming from the mouth and he was losing saliva by the gallon. So I want to my friend Mariska's house and I asked her do we have Poisonious toad she did not know. We then called Peit and he said yes then I gave the phone to Mariska to get the directions so I can help max.
So there we were in Piets bathroom she looking for charcoal pills and I am trying to make Max to vomit. If you were watching you would be laughing Mariska found the pills then I put pills in peanut butter then max would take them. So for the rest of the night I was watching him to make sure he was ok.

Riot's

The last week from Thursday until Saturday they're was a riot in Kampala the capital city. It was all trible related fighting but it was not safe for anyone to leave the compound. Here in Mukono we were all right in the middle of it all. So on Thurday I went to Mukono and they're were trees down and people running around.
They're were some killed in this whole thing. One day only 10 people were killed in Kampala and in Mukono 2 people were killed, so it was pretty serious.

Hello

I wrote more than one so please read them all. Now that I have internet at the house I am going to update more often so please bear with me.

Enjoy

Earthquake

I just finished vomiting and a friend stopped by to see how i was doing. Very nice of her because when you can't move it is a very borning place and I mean even your eyes hurt. Anyways sorry about that but we were talking and out of no where this huge bang and the ground shook for about 5 to 8 seconds it was crazy. I have worked 2city blocks from a fault line and nothing I come half around the world and have an earthquake.

Malaria

Hello again-
This is a blog on Malaria so you are thinking to yourself why his he telling telling me about Malaria. Well I will tell you I have it right now, and it is the worse pain then you can possibly go thou. It is the #1 killer in Uganda yes ahead of AIDS and it takes 7 to 14 days after you have been biten by moqutio before you will start feeling it. It takes 3 to 5 days to cure and it most get worse before it gets better. For real very thing in your body is in pain from your toes to the top of your head. After it is out of your system takes 1.5 to 2 week to fully recover. So it sucks.

Nathan's B-day

Nathan's B-day was a great day for him it was totally his day!! It started out normal and then at breakfast, lunch, and dinner they all sang Happy Birthday to him so it was sang 3 times to him. For the most of the day he was excited it was fun to watch. He came the are house where there were decorations all over the house for him his eye's were huge when he saw it all. We went to dinner the children's home made pancakes for a special meal for him. Then it was time for cake and presents I tell you he was on cloud nine. When all that was finished he came home and had his favorite Cream Ice but this they both ate the whole thing so I lost out but that's ok with me.

A lot of People's Favorite Topic

A lot of people's favorite topic is the Monkey's. Lately the monkeys have been very fun to watch they have been playing on the ground, and I have seen them places I have never seen like in downtown Kampala. Not much going on with them but a very interesting fact I that I did not know until last Saturday. Is that the monkeys eat birds. I was eating supper and one of the kids said look the monkey is eat in the tree. So I looked and he was destroying all the nest, with all the fly bird attacking him. He even caught one out of mid air.

We lost again

We have now lost other child her name was Sarah she a daughter of the workers at the home. She was in very bad shape when they came to us. The story she was born without one arm and one leg on the same side, so when the dad saw that he left and said the baby is from the devil and that is what they believe over here. So the police ask us if we could help and we said yes but the mother has to come with and take care of her. The reason we said that is because she did not want the baby as well. So when she came we start at the very beginning. We showed her how to feed the baby how to care for and love it no matter how many arms and legs she has. So she was doing very well with the child and loving and then she got sicker and sicker and we could not do anything more. A fellow missionary was at the hospital when she passed. Right before she passed the missionary grabbed her from the mother broke in to a room full if Dr's and said this baby is dieing right now if you do not help me, but by the time they got it all together it was over.

A lot of kids

The last time that I blogged I was telling you about all the children we got in a couple of days. Well now that the month is finished in total we got in 13 in that month. To be honest with you I can't remember there names. I hope that not bad ok is but I am going to try

The last time

What Season is it?

What season is it we are now in the raining season. Where it is hot in the day and then it rains like buckets, very day last week and half if this week it rained all morning and all though the night. It is very interesting the rainy it can be very very hot and then rain and very nice but no humidity.
For the ones that are wondering I have not seen a monkey in at least a week so no stories about them.
For the people that what more about the kids. we are very busy with them. We had a child staying here for a short time something with the court system. When they can to pick her up she ran into the forest and that is where she stayed for a couple of hours until they left. Also we just went to pick another child and it sounds like we are also getting in triplet's in tonight too. So today we are going to be getting in 4 new kids. In 2 weeks we got in 5 kids that put us up to 100. WOW

New things

Today I was just finishing work for the day and I was walking in my house and found some fire ants Nice Ja. So I watched them for a little bit and while I was watching them I just looked and all I could see are millions and millions i bet close to a billion fire ants it was crazy. So I call the guy to come and spray to kill them and I went into the house they're were at least two hundred more it was crazy.

The other thing I learned today was when you are driving and they flash the lights at you a lot that means. They're asking you if they're are any cops ahead, and if the thumb is down they're up ahead and if the motion is the hand flat out it is safe no cops ahead. So those are 2 new things that happened today

More Sad News

I have bad news again on the night of Friday the 27th we lost another child. His name was Trevor he has only been with us for a few months. But he was in and out of the hospital all the time. He was in the hospital for about one month and the doctor told us there is not much we can do but make him comfortable. He died from aids; he was only 8 months old.
He still had some family but they couldn't take care of him so that’s why he lived with us. So when he died they ask if he could be buried with the mother. So we took the body to the home of the mother and put him to rest there. It is a custom in that part of Uganda that the person who delivered the body would be paid with a chicken. So I got a chicken and also Mariska a friend of mine got a chicken to for taking care of him.

Home

For the ones that do not know I am home for 15 days. The reason that I am home is because A very close friend and or my mentor was killed in a auto accident in Redwood Falls. Basically what happen was that I was reading am email and I got to the last one for the day. I opened it up and and could not believe what I was reading so I read it 3 times. Then I called a very close friend and asked her for help so she did very thing for me. She called me 3 hours later and then she stated that I have a plane ticket for that night. so I rushed to get on the plane and 24 flight after that here I am.

robbed

I am sorry for having a couple of negative blogs but that is what is going on. On the last weekend of the month I was coming home of a weekend of R and R and I stopped at the corner market to buy some Samosa and airtime. Samosa is kind of like a pizza pocket and the airtime is for the prepaid phones that we have. During the time that I was gone less then 4 minutes they stole my laptop computer, my portfolio and all my if my dirty clothes. If course no one saw anything, so I reported it to the police. It is not like here in the states, when I was reporting it then I have to pay to do it and then I have to pay for the phone calls it is pretty weird the whole system.

funny

I saw the funniest thing last night on way home from bringing friends to the airport. As you know if you talked to my parents the roads in Uganda are very bad. They’re pot holes everywhere and very wide and deep. So I was at a T-road on a side of a hill and there was a gas tanker stuck in a deep pot hole. So I got closer and saw 10 people trying to push this 5000 gallon tanker if not more out of the pot hole, and 1 one guy was down by the wheel with a rock so very time it move forward he would put a rock there so it wouldn’t go back. After I passed I just laughed to myself just thinking how long they would be there before it got free.

On Feb 22nd we lost a child here at Noah's Ark. We got him in Sept at the time he was so sick and basically very breath that he took it could if been his last. We got him healthy again. The last month he was going up and down with his health so we start feeding him with IVs. Last week he went and had surgery and it was stopped 3 times and the last time a Doctor form Canada did the surgery.
The day that he died he was very relaxed and the doctors were feeling very good about that they thought he was starting to improve and then that night he passed.

Rest In Peace

Parents

My mom and dad were here for most of feb. It was nice to see the again, and it was nice for them to see what I do. It all started when I picked them at the airport and when we were on the way home very word that they said I knew it was coming one way or another. So that was a lot of fun just for them to see how different it actually is. We had a lot of fun together we went to the north to see animals and we also went on a River boat ride to see more animals on the Nile. Then we went to the place the Nile River started it is a nice place. For the rest of the time they come with me to work and saw what I do all the time.

just so you know

They are 3 more I just wrote so please do not forget to read them and I hope you enjoy!!!

Brad

about me

I have been very busy lately and some of the things that I have been doing is a lot of running around for the home and the school that we have. I know that sounds like no big deal in the western world but it is the very hard and stressful thing in a 3rd world country. The rules they we have in the western world are not here so a simple thing like driving can make you so tired.
In a couple of weeks my mom and dad are coming so I am very excited. I miss them and it will be nice to see them again. I also cannot wait for them to meet their only 2 grandsons. I know that they will love them like I love them. Some of the things that we are going to be doing is go up to the northern part of Uganda and go on a safari for a couple of days, then go to the source of the Nile River also for a couple of days, just so them the beauty of Uganda, and of course relax for the 15 days. It is a beautiful place to live. Right now it is one of the hottest parts of the year.

Sleep Over

My Henry’s first sleep over, I am so proud of him he is so fun. I am been very busy lately and I have been feeling very bad about it. Henry and his friend Stephen have been asking for a couple of weeks now. So today I told him that if he wants a sleep over that is okay, he was so happy. So when supper was finished they came back to the house. I asked them what they wanted to do and they said we want to dance. So I put some music on and then invited the neighbors to join in it was like a very little block party. It was very nice to watch my 2 kids jump around and try and dance I am so proud. I hope they continue with the love to dance because I love to dance. I would really like it if they would take a dance class to learn how to dance other styles.

Holiday

It has been a very long time since I have written last and I am sorry for that. I have been very busy with the Holiday’s I tell you having Christmas and New Years for 93 children is a lot and I mean a lot of work, but we made it work though.
Has you all know I have 2 little boys living with me now. I have been doing this since thanksgiving. They’re a joy to have living with me, there is a lot of ups and downs but we make it thou.
Let me tell you a little bit about them. The oldest is Henry he is 4 years old and just finished preschool in December. He is very much full of life which is a lot of fun to watch. I just wish I had the energy that he has I see a lot of me in him.
Nathan is the youngest at 2 and he will be 3 on May 16th so I am looking forward to that. Nathan is a lot different than Henry is. Nathan is more of the type that sits back and takes it all in. He is for sure the boss and Henry is the muscle. Nathan is talking and talking and talking just like someone else I know BUT NOT ME.
The Holiday season is pretty different here than in America and it’s a little the same. Here they have 2 Christmas days. They also do not work during the week between Christmas and News years. It is mostly the privately owned business open. Even we do not do a whole a lot in that week. Most of the work force was out for the holiday. It was just the workers that work with the 93 children what were still here during that time.
